Programme Summary

iBike is the Selwyn District's cycle skills education programme. The programmes is based on the BikeReady framework.

The programme is focused on teaching our tamariki to be confident around bikes and learning cycle skills that will set them up for life. The iBike Programme is focused on year 5 and 6 aged tamariki and is being rolled out across the entire Selwyn Kura network over the coming three years.

Year 5 & 6

Outcomes

Our aim is to inspire young tamariki to enjoy cycling and understand the benefits of active recreation around Selwyn, whilst also striving to reduce vehicles on Selwyn roads. The programme includes:

  • Cycle maintenance and helmet fitting
  • Basic cycling skills
  • Road rules

Following the successful launch of the Selwyn Sports Trusts’ iBike programme in March last year, one community focused sponsors has jumped onboard and become naming rights partners of the programme for 2024.
